I am emailing you all because my husband and I are both active duty air force and are due to move to a base that does not allow Akitas within the next two weeks. (Dec 4) We are looking to re-home our Akita (rayo). He will be 6 in February, all white and about 120 lbs. he has had a female Pitt bull as a sister (my sister wanted a dog and took her) and they played very well together. I have introduced him pretty easily to other large dogs as well. He doesn't like the neighbors large golden because he barks a lot and runs the length of the fence; neighbors dog is not altered and can get aggressive. Rayo likes to chase the bunnies and squirrels in our yard. There was an incident where he got out and he chased the other neighbors dog. He supposedly picked up the other dog and shook him around. However the little Yorker had no puncture wounds, bite marks, or even a scratch. I personally believe the neighbors were just frightened by the size of rayo. He is so very friendly with humans. So much so that he won't eat out of your hands. Anyway, the whole issue was they called animal control and my dog was placed on probation ( he couldn't leave my home without a leash). That is the only negative thing rayo has ever done. We also used to have a cat. They used to play great together. My cat used to lick rayo's paws clean every night. They were the best of friends. He has been exposed to newborns and infants. Also children from 3-7 years of age. He lets them pet him but likes to lick their faces. He knows lots of commands. Sit, lay down, stay, hug( that's when you pound your chest he will get on his hind legs and put his paws on your chest ). He knows to wait to be given the command to eat his food or a treat. He loves ice and duck treats. He needs some exercise, as he is a little on the chunky side. Doesn't bark hardly ever. But when he does it's one bark and it's powerful.
