Ms Sassy and her companion,Bear, came to us as the by product of a divorce.  Bear found his home, but Sassy is still looking.  One of our longtime adopters looking for a companion for their male dog sent us this write up:

Sassy seems receptive to Kansei (their dog) and fell all over herself to be with my husband . She was good with me as well. She is as sweet and friendly w/people as the day is long. You can tell she doesn’t have any menace in her at all. She was probably a great mom.

Things to consider with her are that she is EXTREMELY skittish. Out of her known environment (house, run, backyard), she is scared of motion (cars, wind blowing leaves, bicyclists) and noises (cars, Bill said storms too). They say she’s improving, but this would need a lot more work. I don’t know if she’ll ever be that dog that merrily goes on outings. She is a homebody, but she would need conscious socializing to build up her confidence.

She’s lost some weight, but could stand to lose another 5+ pounds. Bill and Lynn and doing great there.

She has no leash manners and isn’t even sure some of the time how to deal with the leash, Bill and Lynn are working on that too. She was pretty good on lead w/Cuff, but needed some coaxing when scary things went by (cars, wind, etc). She will definitely be fine w/obedience training one day.

She is not very food motivated.

Sassy has shown no aggression whatsoever.  All she really wants is to be in the house with the people.  If cats run, she would probably chase them, she chases rabbits in the yard as all dogs do.

She is a very sweet dog and reminds me of Nyla.  All she really wants is a place where she’s safe and cared for.  My guess is that she’d be fine with cats.  I think that Sassy will be thrilled to have another dog to play with.  She played with the other Akita’s at the kennel, although she tended to pounce on them.

Sassy is coming along nicely.  She's walking on lead very well, as long as nothing scares her.  She's lost a good deal of weight but is also finally eating her dog food.  She also will now do anything for a milk bone.

She is still skittish and won't do stairs.  Non the less, we've given her run of the house now with no issues.
