Akitas are one of the best breed of dogs, despite the reputation it may have. I seem to always have people and their dogs run out of the dog park. :o( Does anyone here know where and when they have Akita meet and greets in Northern VA or its surrounding areas? Please do post! It's so hard to find big dogs to play with in my area.

Hi Folks, It is Great work you are doing. Thank you for caring enough to rescue the dogs we love so much when the are abandonned by irresponsible Buyers. Thanks for your dedication to the breed. Keep up the good work! Sincerely, Joshua. http://www.emperorsakitas.com

i use to own 2 akitas, a red bitch and brindal dog, they were my babies, sadly i lost them both 6 years ago. they had a litter of 9, by far the best breed i have known, i work in a dog rescue in the uk and have had a couple in and they have all had fantastic temprements, sadly there has been a akita attack of a child here in the uk in the last couple of days and i am afraid it will punish the breed because of it but fingers crossed. this beautiful breed servives this difficult time. keep up the good work with th rescue

I owned an Akita, she passed away 2 years ago and I am still missing her so much. She was a big female, 120 lbs, but we were so happy together, we went on many walks a day, she loved my granddaughter as much as she loved me. My whole day revolved around her, when I picked up my granddaughter at school, she would come with me and greet all the children with a kiss. I miss her and if I ever decide to get another dog it will most certainly be an Akita. Rest in Peace, Xena, I will always love you.

The only breed! Fight the stereotype! My 11year old Akita loves other dogs & cats! Hate the deed not the breed!

I have a 10 year old Akita who is probably the best breed I have had. Akita's need firm and constant training in early years. We receive many compliments not only regarding her beauty but her demeanor as well. She is very well behaved. (Although in her late years, she has become a little dog aggressive.) We love her dearly and have decided to stick w/this breed FOREVER!

My 7 year old female akita just recently tore a crutiate ligament in her left knee. The vet is recommending that she have TPLO surgery. I was wondering if any other akita owners have experienced this and would have any advice about the surgery. Thanks!

Just wanted to thank you for giving us Remy- he was a wonderful dog and the love of my life. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay with us forever and he's now with Webster over the Rainbow Bridge. I am eager to be reunited with them both someday. Remy Martin Secreast 1994-2007

I adopted my Akita from Shamrock Foundation, she was saved from the County Animal Shelter. She is the best dispositioned dog, andt he love of my life. She loves children, and loves the four cats that were in my home before I adopted her. She is the best. If you have a home, a lot of love, there is nothing better than owning an Akita.
